Absolute Title was bought from Lawyers Title back in September of 1996. Our founder, Milledge T. Pitts, Jr. worked for Lawyer’s Title as an abstractor doing title searches mainly in Richland County but across the state. Milledge was excited run his own company and serve the Real Estate Attorney’s in South Carolina. He always prided himself on hiring excellent employees with extensive experience. In August of 2001 he hired Tabitha Mills as someone who copied the title work and made files for our records along with hand delivering title work to the various firms in Columbia. Within months she moved to working the whole office with one other employee. Together they ran the office successfully for 1.5 years before the other manager decided to learn how to abstract. Tabitha at the time took on the office by herself. In 2003, she convinced Milledge to lease a scanner and to start e-mailing title work to the firms, as a faster way to get our clients their work. We were among the very few abstracting companies doing this at the time, and our clients were all very excited. In July of 2007 Alecia Milling was hired on to assist Tabitha, as the workload and clients had grown to where Tabitha was working 50 + hour weeks. We did this together in the office until 2015. On March 13, 2015, we were shocked and horrified to get the phone call that Milledge had passed away while on a quick diving trip to Florida. We met as a company two days later and decided to keep Absolute Title going in honor of Milledge and to train his surviving sons, Milledge T. Pitts, III (Trey) and Travis C. Pitts to become abstractors in their father’s footsteps. Now in 2023, we can proudly say we have kept the doors open and continued to strive to be one of the best companies to provide title work.
We hope to continue his legacy for years to come.
